In case you needed a reminder of how the coronavirus is devastating countries, US President Trump said keeping US deaths at 100,000 would be 'good job'.
US President Trump said that his administration recently extended the period of social distancing until April 30 to prevent the coronavirus outbreak from getting worse. Since experts predicted that without doing anything to mitigate the pandemic, 2.2 million people would die in America.
Trump said having 'just' 100,000 people dying would be a 'good job'
So Trump said that to prevent that catastrophe from happening, the US death death toll must be held down to 100,000, which would prove that he would have done a "good job".
“I kept asking and we did models,” Trump said. “These are 2.2 million people would have died. So if we can hold that down, as we’re saying, to 100,000, it’s a horrible number, maybe even less, but to 100,000, so we have between 100 and 200,000, we all together have done a very good job”.
Trump changed his mind on coronavirus strategy
Before, the White health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said the US could have about 200,000 deaths and millions of cases, but assured that these numbers are based on models and it's impossible to know how things would work out exactly.
Modeling suggested millions of Americans could die from uncontrolled outbreak
President Trump only began to change his social distancing view after the reality of the pandemic began to surface. He saw scenes at Elmhurst Hospital, New York, in the Queens borough in which he grew up, and was rattled.
“I’ve been watching that for the last week on television,” he said. “Body bags all over, in hallways. I’ve been watching them bring in trailer trucks, freezer trucks, they’re freezer trucks, because they can’t handle the bodies, there are so many of them," said Trump.

"This is essentially in my community, in Queens; Queens, New York. I’ve seen things that I’ve never seen before.”
