Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, the directors behind the John Wick franchise, have worked on action sequences in the upcoming Matrix 4.
With such an enduring legacy and passionate fanbase, it was only a matter of time until The Matrix secured a big-budget modern-day sequel, with Lana Wachowski announcing she was returning to the iconic franchise last year. Picking up Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, and, of course, Keanu Reeves, it seems the highly-anticipated fourth film will opt to sidestep the traditional reboot route in favor of a direct sequel, with numerous members of the original cast and crew returning.
However, it seems some new faces will be joining the team behind The Matrix 4, with the directors behind the incredibly popular John Wick franchise, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, announcing that they'll be working on some of the new film's action sequences. Naturally, that's incredibly exciting, especially seen as both men have once been involved with the Matrix franchise in stunt roles in the past.
Chad Stahelski was the martial arts coordinator for The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions, while also acting as a stunt double for Neo, while David Leitch was a stunt player in The Matrix: Reloaded. Not only do both men have a strong working relationship with The Matrix 4's leading man Keanu Reeves, but they both have extensive and detailed knowledge in how to craft superb action sequences.
Outside of The Matrix, Chad Stahelski will be taking on the job of making a fourth John Wick film in the near future as well. Not only is the film franchise currently one of the biggest in the action genre, but it seems now both Leitch and Stahelski are becoming incredibly significant names in Hollywood.
The Matrix 4 will release on May 21, 2021.
